About
The Hackensack Theatre Company accidentally began when in January of 2004, Caseen Gaines assembled a group of his closest friends to act in two one-act plays ("Conversation Therapy" by Bradley Hayward and "Earwig" by Fraser MacFarlane) as a benefit for Hackensack High School's Drama Department. "An Evening for the Arts" had a successful run at the Hackensack Cultural Arts Center, despite an opening night snowstorm. When the curtains closed for the final time, audience members were asking where they could find out information about our next show.
The next time came in September of 2004, where under the name of Case on Stage, Gaines directed Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" with Felicia Benson-Kraft of Maywood, NJ as producer. The production, held at the recently closed Paramus Picture Show of Paramus, was another success story.
In early 2005, Gaines and Benson-Kraft decided to chaneg the name of thier group for a final time to the Hackensack Theatre Company. HTC had its formal debut in September of 2005 with the cult classic "The Rocky Horror Show," back where it all began – the Hackensack Cultural Arts Center.
Since "The Rocky Horror Show," the HTC has become incorporated and recognized as a non-profit organization. We produce talent showcases, rock concerts, and, of couse, live theater. We are a resident theater company of the Hackensack Cultural Arts Center and will continue to be through January of 2009.
